He defendido fuertemente la participación cívica de la comunidad Latina por más de 40 años. Durante esos años he participado en muchas campañas de candidatos Democrátas.
Yo apoyo el movimiento de Elecciones No Partidistas, porque creo firmemente en que ya es tiempo de cambiar la manera en la que elegimos a los oficiales politicos! Los jóvenes necesitan creer en nuestro sistema gobernamental y en el proceso de como elegir a los oficiales politicos.
Actualmente, el sistema de las elecciones primarias bajo no está funcionando para el mejor interés de la gente de Arizona. Lo que hace es limitar el derecho del voto de los votantes Independientes.
Desafortunadamente, los dos principales partidos politicos solo han atendido sus propias necesidades y han sobre pasado las necesidades de los otros constituyentes.
Es por esto que necesitamos un proceso de elecciones que nos una y nos lleve a atender los asuntos, de interés común, tales como: la educación, el empleo, la inmigración, los derechos civiles y entre muchos otros…”

"I believe it is time for change in how we elect people.
I have been a strong advocate for civic participation in the Latino community for over 40 years. I have participated in countless campaigns for Democratic candidates during this time.
I support the Open Primaries movement because I believe it is time for change in how we elect people to public office! The younger generations need something to believe in when it comes to our government system and the way we elect public officials.
Currently, primary elections under the party system are not working to serve the best interests of the people of Arizona, and it disenfranchises a significant block of independent voters.
Unfortunately, the two major parties are guilty of catering to their base and ignoring other constituents' needs.
We need an election process that will bring us together to address the issues we all care about, such as Education, Employment, Immigration, Civil Rights & many others."

Arizona Latino Voter Attitude Study
Phoenix, AZ – December 14, 2015 — Open Primaries released a new independent survey that shines a harsh light on the disconnect between the real world attitudes of Latino voters in Arizona and the political system. Overwhelmingly, Latino voters feel elected officials in Arizona are failing to represent their community and their disillusionment with both Republicans and Democrats has Latinos calling for changes in the electoral system.
The survey findings reveal Latinos feel they are misunderstood and that politicians from both parties fail to engage with them:
- 90% of Latinos feel their community needs new strategies and methods of empowerment.
- Education – NOT immigration – is the top issue as ranked by Arizona Latinos.
- 88% of Latinos want to see good candidates, regardless of their party and 55% of Latino voters agree they should become more active in the Republican Party.
- 67% say candidates rarely contact them, so they don’t understand their choices and 51% say they do not vote because candidates don’t care about the Latino community.
- 93% support changes to the electoral system that would foster more loyalty and accountability and are critical of government leaders for failing to bring Arizonans together across cultures.

Latinos have been portrayed as single-issue voters and at times we’ve been guilty of reinforcing the stereotype that all we care about is immigration reform. As the daughter of two immigrants, I strongly support the need for immigration reform. I, like most Americans, also care deeply about education, the economy, health care, climate change and the conflict in the Middle East.
So why are Latinos sidelined from these policy debates by the media and our elected officials?
